by Dr. David Jeremiah

Share:

As you study all the Bible says about heaven, there may be terms you are unfamiliar with, or simply need a refresher on. This list was created for exactly that reason—reference this “glossary of terms” as needed to aid in your study of heaven.

Abraham’s bosom

An intermediate heaven (Paradise), a place filled with Old Testament heroes before Jesus relocated Paradise and took them to the third heaven.

Related Scripture: Luke 16:19-33

Age of Accountability

The Bible does not mention a specific age when children are old enough to comprehend the Gospel and to be accountable for rejecting it.

Blotted Out

The Lamb’s (Jesus’) Book of Life contains the names of every person born into the world. But if a person dies having rejected God’s offer of salvation, his name is blotted out of the Book of Life.

A beautiful river in the New Jerusalem, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God.

Intermediate Heaven

The place where every believer who died prior to the Ascension of Christ went (also called Paradise). After Jesus died on the cross and before He rose, He went to intermediate heaven and brought the righteous dead into the presence of God.

Related Scripture: Luke 16:19-23, 23:43; Ephesians 4:8-10; 2 Corinthians 12:2-4

Intermediate Hell

The place (Hades) where an unbeliever’s spirit and soul resides until they are consigned to hell at the Great White Throne Judgment.
